Color verses from a slate board or chalkboard...

"Children, obey your parents in all things:for this is well pleasing unto the Lord."
 Ephesians 6:1

Description of Coloring Pages: old-fashioned slates for young students, chalkboard assignments over 100 years old, what little ones used for learning... I've included below a slate for those of you who are teachers, to "write on" using a modern software program if you'd like. There are all kinds of free fonts out there that mimic chalk that you can download as well.

"I will pour out my spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions."
Joel 2:28 old wooden slate board

Here is a blank slate for visitors to download and print their own texts on.
Don't remove the attributions folks.

Don't forget to drag the png. or jpg into a Word Document and enlarge the image as much as possible before printing it folks. If you have a question about this coloring page, just type into the comment box located directly below this post and I'll try to get back to you as soon as I can.

What is wrong with this illustration of Cain and Abel?

This drawing came from a Bible published in 1846, wow that's old! Cain and Abel are illustrated here in various scenes from the Bible. This kind of illustration was typical in times when many people did not know how to read. But there is something not quite right here...
In the upper left, Cain and Abel are offering their gifts up to God on altars, although the artist was incorrect in his drawing of Cain's offering. He should have shown Cain burning vegetables here instead of a lamb. So he missed the whole point of the story. Because Cain offered the things up to God that he had grown himself, his offering has been often interpreted by many Bible teachers to be of lesser quality. The offended Cain became so angry with his brother's success that he killed Abel. (This murder scene appears lower at the front of the illustration.)
The scene on the right is of God the Father chastising Cain for his offering or it could be God confronting Cain for murdering his brother. It's interesting that the Bible says Cain believes that he is being corrected for making a bad offering because it represents his vanity. But God doesn't tell Cain why he has made a lesser offering at all, He simply tells him that he must try harder next time to do what is pleasing.
So why did God prefer Abel's offering? Biblical scholars tell us it is because the lamb sacrificed at his altar reminded God of Jesus, who is the sacrificial lamb i. e. the perfect offering.

Color Women of the Bible by John Green

John Green lives in the United Kingdom and has illustrated
at least 140 coloring books for Dover Publishing House.

I purchased John Geen's coloring book from 2007 that depicts some famous women of the Bible. I love these illustrations because the costumes, hairstyles and facial features mirror the actual appearances of those people who live in the Middle East. I chose to color the page of Abigail as she delivers food to King David's troops hoping he will forgive her husband's transgression, because she is one of my favorite Bible characters.
This collection of coloring pages by Green includes 30 women from the Bible: Abigail (above), Bethsheba, Deborah, Delilah, Dinah, Esther, Eve, Hagar, Hannah, Jezebel, Jochebed, Judith, Lot's Wife, Michal, Miriam, Naomi, Pharaoh's daughter, and Potiphar's wife just to name a few. I think that many little girls will enjoy coloring this series as much as our family did.

Color angels in stained glass...

John Green's book above, teachers sample.
One of my favorite coloring books published by Dover is by John Green. This collection of angels is printed on translucent vellum and little ones can hang up their color creations in the windows to watch the sunlight illuminate their progress.
Teachers may download free samples of a few images to color themselves before purchasing the entire collection. I keep a book of sample pages on file to share coloring ideas with my companions or students.
This coloring page demonstrates how I've applied pressure to my colored pencils in order to demonstrate gradation. Mastering a coloring skill such as this one is of primary importance when learning how to draw or paint more complicated art works.
Coloring books afford a fun and inexpensive way for students to practice gradation skills over and over, without becoming bored or frustrated with the repetitive process.
I have included several coloring pages of floral stained glass that are designed to help aid students determine how and where to include a color gradient. This type of coloring page superimposes a regular coloring page on top of a digital tracing for those of you who would like to practice this method.

A Family Record Page for A Bible

I've cleaned the center image so that visitors may print this part
of the antique family record as it is shown in the original page sample below.

After centering and printing the above image on a nice piece of paper, print out a copy of this black and
white image to serve as a "tracing guide" for the calligraphy birds. This is of course easier
to do with a light table but I've used the same method by holding papers over a window and
lightly tracing with a soft pencil where my initial graphic strokes should be.

Here is the original Family Record with colorful calligraphy birds.
I've included it here so that those of you who would like to copy the color
version using authentic colors may do so. This original version
dates from the late 1800s.

Paper Jigsaw Puzzle Templates

Print your puzzle selection from one of the templates below onto
the back side of a coloring page. Cut out the puzzle and put your coloring
page back together again!

"A puzzle is a problem or enigma that tests the ingenuity of the solver. In a basic puzzle, one is intended to put together pieces in a logical way in order to come up with the desired solution. Puzzles are often contrived as a form of entertainment, but they can also stem from serious mathematical or logistical problems — in such cases, their successful resolution can be a significant contribution to mathematical research.
Solutions to puzzles may require recognizing patterns and creating a particular order. People with a high inductive reasoning aptitude may be better at solving these puzzles than others. Puzzles based on the process of inquiry and discovery to complete may be solved faster by those with good deduction skills." Wikipedia.org
